Project: 225m High-Pier Bailey Bridge for India's "Statue of Unity"
Project Background:
This was not a standard public transport bridge, but a purpose-built structure for a world-class landmark: the construction of the "Statue of Unity," the world's tallest statue, honoring one of India's founding fathers, Sardar Patel. Located in a remote, hilly area of Gujarat, the construction site's challenging terrain posed a significant logistical bottleneck for transporting heavy machinery and materials. The project required a robust temporary bridge to span a deep valley with an extremely high load capacity.
Bridge Solution & Highlights:
Functional Role: This was a dedicated "work bridge," with the sole mission of serving as a lifeline for personnel, equipment, and material transport during the statue's construction phase in 2018.
Technical Challenges & Solutions:
1.Long Span on High Piers: The bridge has an impressive total length of 225 meters and was erected on very tall, custom-fabricated steel piers to cross the valley. This demanded a highly precise design for both the bridge superstructure and its support system.
2.Deck-Type Configuration: We provided a "Deck-type" Bailey bridge solution. In this configuration, the roadway deck is placed on top of the main trusses. This creates a wide, flat, and unobstructed platform, which is ideal for the passage of oversized and heavy equipment like large cranes and concrete trucks.
3.Heavy-Duty Design: The entire bridge structure was specially reinforced to withstand the continuous, heavy traffic load throughout the demanding construction schedule.
Project Significance:
Our participation in the historic "Statue of Unity" project was a tremendous endorsement of our technical expertise and product quality.
