Project Background:
The Kamchay Hydropower Station in Kampot province is a national-level energy project of great importance to Cambodia. During its construction and for its subsequent long-term operation, a permanent bridge capable of handling heavy equipment and vehicles was essential to cross the river, connecting the dam site to the main road network. The steel bridge we provided serves as a critical piece of this vital infrastructure.
Bridge Solution & Highlights:
Permanent Multi-Span Structure: A key feature of this project is its multi-span design. As the photos illustrate, our steel truss superstructure is installed upon a series of permanent, reinforced concrete piers. This "composite" or "hybrid" approach is highly effective, combining the durability and strength of a concrete substructure with the key advantages of a Bailey-type superstructure—namely, rapid and lightweight installation. This is a common and efficient design for major engineering projects.
Serving a National-Level Project: As the main access route for a major hydropower plant, the bridge was engineered to meet the stringent demands of long-term, high-intensity use, ensuring safe passage for construction traffic and operational maintenance vehicles.
Social Significance: Completed around December 2008, the project's importance is highlighted by the large-scale inauguration ceremony shown in the photos, attended by officials and the local community.
