This project provided a critical crossing on the legendary Duku Highway, a route renowned for its breathtaking scenery and perilous, high-altitude terrain. Commissioned by a government engineering authority, the bridge required an extraordinary load capacity to support special heavy vehicles in one of China's most challenging environments.
Engineering Highlights & A Custom Heavy-Duty Design:
Extreme 120-Ton Load Capacity: To handle the immense 120-ton load requirement, a highly specialized deck-type, 9-row, single-layer configuration was engineered. In this design, nine parallel lines of Type 321 trusses are arrayed side-by-side directly beneath the roadway, creating a high-density foundation to support the 30-meter span.
Integrated Steel Substructure: The prefabricated superstructure is supported by a robust substructure of 630mm diameter spiral steel pipe piers. This all-steel, hybrid design allows for rapid installation, a significant advantage in remote mountain locations with short construction windows.
Heavy-Duty, Maintenance-Free Deck: The bridge is surfaced with specialized heavy-duty deck panels featuring a maintenance-free design. This was a crucial requirement to ensure long-term reliability and reduce the lifecycle cost of the structure in a location where access for maintenance is difficult.
Specialized Heavy-Vehicle Carriageway: The bridge provides a 4.2-meter wide carriageway, engineered specifically to provide safe passage for oversized and extreme-load vehicles essential for the region's development and upkeep.
