Project: Nepal Earthquake Relief - The Zhangmu Port Lifeline Bridge
Project Background:
This project was executed under grave but significant circumstances. In April 2015, a catastrophic earthquake struck Nepal, causing devastating destruction and severely damaging the Sino-Nepal Friendship Bridge at Zhangmu Port—the primary land route between China and Nepal. The severing of this transportation artery critically hampered the delivery of rescue teams and relief supplies, and stalled reconstruction efforts. In this state of emergency, rapidly reopening this "lifeline" was the absolute top priority.
Bridge Solution & Highlights:
Emergency Response & Rapid Deployment: In a race against time for post-disaster recovery, the Bailey bridge is an unparalleled solution. All its components are standardized modules that can be quickly transported to the rugged, mountainous site and assembled with minimal personnel and equipment, saving precious time for the relief effort.
Heavy-Duty Structure for Maximum Safety: We supplied a Type-200 bridge with a span of 42.672 meters. To account for the geologically unstable post-earthquake conditions and the anticipated traffic of heavy reconstruction vehicles, we provided an exceptionally robust "Quadruple-Row, Single-Storey, Reinforced (QSR)" configuration. This four-row design offers immense load-bearing redundancy and structural stability, ensuring the absolute safety of this lifeline bridge against aftershocks and harsh environmental factors.
Adaptability to Complex Terrain: As the photo shows, the construction environment was a steep mountain gorge. Our modular steel bridge requires relatively simple foundations, allowing it to be adapted and erected quickly under such damaged and complex site conditions.
Project Significance:
This project transcended a mere business transaction; it represented our company's social responsibility and commitment. During that international relief operation in 2015, our product played a pivotal role in reopening a critical lifeline, providing a solid link for the flow of personnel and supplies between China and Nepal.
